When you turn on the tap in Canby, you expect clean, safe, and great-tasting drinking water. The Canby Water Supply Program (CWSP) has a simple purpose: to provide reliable, high-quality drinking water. The CWSP will meet all requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act.
More than 30 years ago, local leaders recognized that the Molalla River could not supply enough water to meet our community’s long-term needs. In fact, we expect that shortfall to come as early as 2035 and are acting now to ensure a reliable and safe drinking water supply for the Canby community.
Over the next 5 years, we plan to build supply facilities to treat and filter water from the Willamette River. Many communities across Oregon, including Wilsonville, Corvallis, Springfield, and Sherwood, source their drinking water from the Willamette River. Hillsboro, the Tualatin Valley Water District, and Beaverton are currently making the same transition.
The Willamette River offers several advantages as a drinking water source. A system of upstream dams helps maintain reliable flows during the dry summer months. Decades of environmental protection have improved water quality across the basin. The CWSP will build a new water intake facility on the Willamette, a water supply pipeline, and a new water treatment plant that will use the best available technology for treatment and filtration of the water. With these new facilities, we will provide year-round reliable, safe, and great-tasting drinking water sourced from the Willamette River.
This program represents more than new pipes and facilities. It reflects our commitment to what we love about Canby: clean and reliable water for our residents, local businesses, and the community.
