Planning Underway for Canby’s Future Water Treatment Plant With Stantec Consulting Services, Inc.

The Canby Utility Board has taken a significant step toward securing the community’s future water supply by hiring Stantec Consulting Services, Inc. as the lead consultant for the new Canby Drinking Water Supply System project. Following a Request for Proposals issued in September 2024, the Board awarded the contract to Stantec in January 2025.

The 2023 Water Master Plan identified the need for a new water supply to support Canby’s growing community, including residents, businesses, industries, and fire protection services. To meet these demands, a state-of-the-art water treatment plant and intake system will be built on the Willamette River.

Stantec brings exceptional expertise in managing large-scale capital improvement projects and specializes in treating and conveying water from the Willamette River. Notable accomplishments include the original design of the Willamette River fish screen, intake, and water treatment plant in Wilsonville, as well as serving as Program Manager for the $1.6 billion Willamette Water Supply Program.

As Canby Utility embarks on this community-defining project, anticipated to be completed by 2031, Stantec will provide crucial services, including preliminary engineering studies, project planning, procurement and management support, and community outreach. The firm will also assist in identifying funding opportunities, such as bonds, low-interest state and federal loans, and grants, to help minimize the impact on water rates. To fund the project, annual water rate increases are expected. Stay informed about project updates and community announcements by visiting our website: canbyutilityor.gov/new-water-treatment-plant.
